Parliamentary Under Secretary of State

David Cairns was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office on 9th May 2006.

He was born in Greenock in 1966 and educated at the Gregorian University, Rome and the Franciscan Study Centre, Canterbury.

Before entering Parliament David was research assistant to Siobhain McDonagh MP (1997 -2001). Previous to this he was Co-ordinator, Christian Socialist Movement (1994-1997).

He is a member of the Community Union and the Co-op Party.

His ministerial responsibliities at the NIO are Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), Department for Regional Development (DRD), Department of the Environment (DoE).
