David Hanson MP

Minister of State
David Hanson was appointed as Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office on 9 May 2005.
He was born in Liverpool in 1957 and educated at Verdin Comprehensive School, Winsford and the University of Hull where he was Vice President of the Students Union from 1978 to 1979.
David Hanson has been MP for Delyn since 1992. He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister from 2001, having been Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales from 1999 and Junior Government Whip from 1998 to 1999.
He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 1997 to 1998. He served on the Leader’s campaign team with responsibility for national Heritage and was a member of the Public Accounts Committee 1994-1997 and the Welsh Affairs Committee from 1992 to 1997.
David Hanson was a Vale Royal Borough Councillor from 1983 to 1991 where he was Leader of the Labour Group and Chair of Economic Development.
Before entering Parliament he was National Director of Re-Solv, (Society for the Prevention of Solvent Abuse), Regional Manager for Scope and Retail Manager for the Co-operative Society.
He is married, with two sons and two daughters and his interests include cinema, football and reading. His political interests include Foreign Affairs, health, heritage, local government, South Africa and solvent abuse.
His Ministerial responsibilities at the NIO are Political Development, Criminal Justice, Department for Social Development (DSD), Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) and Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP). The Minister will retain responsibility for the Maze development. The Minister will have special responsibility for victims.
