State Entrance

The state entrance is a welcoming hall for guests to the Castle. Above the fireplace is the Royal Coat of Arms, flanked by large portraits of King George III and his Queen, Charlotte.

Ceremonial spades used for tree planting face the front door. To one side is a bust of Wills Hill, the first Marquess of Downshire, and the person chiefly responsible for the existence of the Castle. Above the entrance door is a large skull and antlers of an Irish Elk, taken from a bog in Co. Armagh.
