The Explosives (Fireworks) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002

The Explosives (Fireworks) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 came into operation in May 2002 and require a person who wishes to possess, purchase, sell, acquire, handle or use fireworks to apply to the Secretary of State for a licence.

The law governing the sale and use of fireworks in Northern Ireland is very clear.

If you want to purchase, possess and use fireworks, then you must have a valid fireworks licence.

Licences for garden fireworks display cost a minimum of £30.

There are also strict regulations regarding the sale of fireworks by registered retailers.

Completed application forms and licence fees must be with the Firearms and Explosives Branch by 22 October 2008.

Applications received after this date may not be processed in time for Halloween.
