Secretary of State launches competition for membership of the Parades Commission

Secretary of State Peter Hain has today announced an open competition for appointment to the post of member of the Parades Commission.
The Commission is currently made up of a Chairman and 5 members appointed by the Secretary of State. This competition aims to fill the remaining position on the Commission.
Launching the competition, the Secretary of State said “Parades play a significant role in the cultural life of Northern Ireland, and the Parades Commission works to encourage mutual understanding and respect for cultural differences. I believe that this is of utmost importance as we move forward in Northern Ireland.
“I would encourage anyone who wants to make a real difference and feels they could make a positive contribution to apply for this important position.”
